Home Office Staging Tips
Many residential properties today have a fully functioning home office. Many are quite cluttered with documents, folders, binders, “to do” lists, piles of trade magazines, and basic chaos.
This may sound familiar to you (I’m not judging here – I know plenty of people who work that way), but it’s no way to show your home office when your place is for sale. Do you really want a bunch of strangers looking at your work product, or worse walking off with a file?
For security reasons, take steps to remove and hide all important papers, clear your desk of clutter, power down your computer and if it’s a laptop, keep it with you!
When trying to sell your home, have your office appear bright, organized and clutter free. Your office may be a little less functional while your home is up for sale, but the goal is to sell your home as fast as possible.
You want potential buyers to enter the room and say, “What a great home office. I can really see myself working in this space!”
In order to accomplish this, it’s important to remove all personal diplomas, and memo boards. These items can be distracting, and make an office look cluttered. Add a nice piece of art that ties in the wall color and creates a focal point. Keep in mind the size relationship between the piece of art and your wall should be proportional.
