Vaastu Shastra, Use Ancient Powers to Build Your Home

Conventionally, there are five major elements of Vaastu: earth, fire, wind, water and space. Vaastu suggests an architecture and alignment in such a manner that all the elements are balanced. As all the elements can have both positive and negative use and effects, Vaastu keeps their negative and positive energy in balance.

The concept of energy is somewhat similar to Feng Shui as the latter also focuses on the balance of energy. Vastu, however, clearly defines how the foundations must be laid from the start. Here are few examples of Vaastu principles:

• According to Vaastu, the building site must ideally be square, and if not, the length should not exceed more than twice of the breadth.

• The north-eastern side must be kept lower than the other sides so that the water flows towards that direction.

• The rivers, canals, and other water bodies must be at North or East. Mountains and hills must be at South and West.

• In the same manner, Vaastu clearly defines the number of staircases, windows, doors and columns a building must have.

• Plus, the position of children’s room, drawing room, kitchen and bathroom is also specified.

Newer studies have proven that Vaastu is not just an esoteric belief, but in fact an ancient study of environmental and architectural science. And as it ensures a better passage of air and light, it is sure to bring positive energy with it any way.
